I’ve started a new Baseball Mogul game as the 1962 New York Mets. My goal in this game is to win a World Series before 1969 - the year the Mets won the World Series in real life.
May the odds be ever in my favor.
The Mets’ real-life record from 1962-1969.
Here is what the Mets really did from 1962 to 1969.
1962: 40-120-1
1963: 51-111
1964: 53-109-1
1965: 50-112-2
1966: 66-95
1967: 61-101
1968: 73-89-1
1969: 100-62 (Won World Series).
Boy, they were awful.
I don’t think it will be all that challenging to win more games than the Mets won during this stretch. The challenge will be winning a World Series in seven seasons or less.
Rules for My Baseball Mogul Simulation as the Mets.
I’m putting in place a few rules to make this as challenging as possible for myself.
Rule 1: No trades allowed.
What I like to do in Baseball Mogul is to trade away all of the older veteran players for either cash or prospects. I like to do the same thing with all the players with a high payroll.
This frees up a lot of room on the payroll while quickly restocking the farm system.
But I won’t allow myself to do that in this game.
Rule 2: No free-agent signings allowed.
I can’t sign anyone from the free agent market. This would allow me to “buy” a championship, undermining this whole challenge's integrity.
I have to build this team using the players currently on the 1962 Mets roster, the prospects currently in the minor league system, and through the prospect draft each year.
Do you think this is possible? How many seasons will it take to turn the Mets into World Champions?
Let me know in the comments!
I’ll be simulating weeks at a time, so the simulation should go pretty quickly. I’ll give several updates during each season.
Next time, we will go over the Mets MLB roster, as well as take a look through their minor league system.
World Series by 1968 or bust!
